Amirthalingam Baheerathan
Amirthalingam Baheerathan is a founder member of AEDU UK and has been working as a co-ordinator for the last 10 years alongside working as a consultant psychiatrist in the UK. Having left Sri Lanka, partly as a result of the civil war, he has been involved with a Sri Lankan Tamil Cultural School in London and still feels the responsibility to improving conditions at home. Brought up in a family that was highly involved in our social community, he is deeply concerned for underprivileged students and is aware of the power that education can give them. The current standards of education in Sri Lanka requires much improvement, particularly in impoverished areas that were affected by the civil war.
Arumugam Gangeswaran
Arumugam Gangeswaran graduated with a degree in BCom and did his post graduate diploma in Management Studies in the UK. He is a retired accountant and has been involved with a Tamil school in Kingston for more than fifteen years. He joined AEDU UK to help the education of students in Sri Lanka.
Jerry Jude Julius
Jerry Jude Julius works as a Financial Controller in the city with a degree in Accounting & Finance and is Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants (FCCA). He has more than 20 years of experience in Corporate Reporting with various organisations in the UK. Originally a founding member of a charity organisation with the view of supporting our war affected underprivileged students & families in Sri Lanka which has recently merged with AEDU UK to continue that objective on a wider scale.
Maheswaran Shankar
Maheswaran Shankar is a chartered engineer, working in the oil and gas industry for over 20 years. He has been a part of AEDU UK since 2012. Shankar joined AEDU UK after hearing about the foster care and scholarship programmes for the education of disadvantaged students in the Northern and Eastern provinces of Sri Lanka. He sincerely believes that education is the most vital resource, and AEDU is committed to fulfilling those objectives by encouraging and supporting students to achieve highly and to successfully pursue their ambitions and careers.
Thambirajah Alageswararajah
Thambirajah Alageswararajah works in the retail industry. He has personal experience of the civil war and understands its devastating impact on the education of students and youth. He was drawn to AEDU by its commitment to uplift the impoverished and the dispossessed through education. Every child in need hurts him and he strives diligently to collect extra funds towards their education. He is a respected representative of AEDU UK at annual general meetings of Sri Lankan AEDU organisations each year.
Sambavi Sathiyamoorthy
Sambavi Sathiyamoorthy is a retired Geography teacher. She has worked with international charities engaged in poverty alleviation worldwide. She joined AEDU UK, attracted by its commitment to make education accessible to every child in need. Since joining AEDU in 2010 she has served as secretary during its formative years and continues to serve AEDU in wide ranging roles.
Satkin Somasundram
Satkin Somasundram holds an MBA and has over decades of experience in retail management. Satkin is one of the founder members of a UK registered charity organisation, currently in its 25th year. Satkin is currently the president of his school’s old students’ association in the UK where he has gained experience in organising fund-raising events, from planning to execution including bringing artistes from abroad. Satkin joined AEDU UK to extend his support to educate underprivileged students and to create sustainable livelihood programmes for the families affected by the civil war and natural disasters in Sri Lanka.
Sangaravel Shankar
Sangaravel Shankar is a double graduate with degrees in Botany and Accountancy and Finance. He is currently employed as Finance accountant. He has a long-standing record of involvement in charity work since his student days and joining AEDU UK, is a natural progression to his commitment to help those in need. His knowledge, skills and experience in accounting is of immense value to AEDU. Above all, he is our trusted treasurer, safeguarding the integrity of our members and accounting for every penny entrusted to us by our supporters and sponsors.
Skantha Thuraiappah
Skantha Thuraiappah graduated with a BEng Electrical and Electronics degree and qualified as a Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD). He currently works in the IT field and joined AEDU UK wanting to make a profound impact helping underprivileged students of Sri Lanka. He was a founder member and president of a voluntary charity organisation, which has merged with AEDU UK since July 2019.
Paramasamy Somasuntharam
Paramasamy Somasuntharam is the manager of a firm of solicitors. He as always been passionate about and dedicated to helping those in need regardless of their backgrounds He firmly believes, that the Tamil community devastated by the civil war can move forward mainly by nurturing the younger generation through education, as education equips them with skills, confidence and means to build their future. This strong belief led him to found AEDU UK in 2009. Since then he has worked selflessly to build and expand AEDU and nothing happens in AEDU.UK or Sri Lankan AEDU organisations without his input. Happy to work in the background, he has yielded in our 10 th year to lead us from the front in various roles.
Subathra Poopalasundaram
Subathra Poopalasundaram is a research scientist with a degree in Biochemistry and a PhD in Molecular Neurobiology. She is also a private tutor, coach and mentor with over 25 years of experience in various academic institutions in the UK. She joined AEDU UK wanting to make a profound impact helping underprivileged students. Subathra has served as Chairperson and Secretary and has been involved with the charity’s fundraising activities.
Thenuka Jegatheeswaram Pillai
Thenuka Jegatheeswaram Pillai is a science graduate and has been working in project and programme management in the public sector for over 15 years. Thenuka joined AEDU UK as she strongly believes all students are entitled to an education, no matter what their background is. As a trustee she has helped with several fund-raising events and has served as Secretary and Assistant Secretary.
Vijayakanthan Wilbert
Vijayakanthan Wilbert is an accountant by profession, he holds degree in Accounting and Finance, and completed Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). Wilbert is a founder member of a charity which has been running for the past 5 years undertaking various livelihood projects in the war affected areas in Sri Lanka. He is also a founder member and secretary of another charity registered in the UK as well as in Sri Lanka, with the primary objective to conduct uplifting educational programmes at a school in Jaffna. He strongly believes in giving an opportunity to all when it comes to education. Wilbert believes that “a good education is a foundation for a better future”.
Thebak Mathias Ehambaranathan
Thebak Mathias Ehambaranathan works in Sales for an Asset Manager in the city with a degree in Mathematics & Economics. Thebak currently serves as the secretary for the organisation and joined AEDU UK to help support the education of students in Sri Lanka and give back to the community.
